Ubiquinone, also known as coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), is involved in cellular energy production. It is a naturally occurring compound found in the body and is essential for cellular energy metabolism. Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) from Kaneka, derived from biotechnological yeast fermentation, is considered to resemble Q10 coenzyme produced in the body. It"s combination of coconut oil medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) makes it easy to be absorbed and used by the body, while the prebiotic insulin increases coenzyme bioavailability and energy production. Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like substance that is present in all living human cells. Hence its second name - "ubiquinone", from ubiquitous quinone, or "ubiquitous quinone". Ubiquinone is contained in cell's "energy stations" - mitochondria, which produce about 95% of all the body's energy. Ubiquinone supports cellular energy production and is an important contributor to body's defenses against oxidative stress, helping to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

The highest concentrations of ubiquinone are found in heart muscle cells, brain, liver, and lungs (i.e., organs with maximum energy expenditure); therefore, a sufficient amount of this substance is especially important for their proper functions.

As we age, the synthesis of ubiquinone in the body and its absorption from food slows down. However, even at a young age, food intake cannot always compensate for the body's need for this valuable substance. For example, to obtain 15 mg of ubiquinone per day, one must eat approximately 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) of baked trout, 500 g (1.1 lbs) of lean beef, or 600 g (1.3 lbs) of peanuts. The absorption of CoQ10 from food sources may vary among individuals.
